Cryptoasset Data Company Nomics Shuts Down

Crypto price tracking website, Nomics.com, has shut down after nearly five years in operation.

Crypto price tracking website, Nomics.com, has shut down after nearly five years in operation.

Although no official announcement was made, visitors to the Nomics site today were met with an announcement stating the closure of the business.

The alert stated:

Dear Nomics User,

Unfortunately, we are sunsetting this website effective today. Thank you for using Nomics.com over the years. We want to extend our sincerest appreciation to our users; it’s been a pleasure to serve you.

We do this with a heavy heart, and we are not taking this step lightly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Thank you,
The Nomics.com Team

The platform offered users the ability to view cryptoasset prices for free and offered paid APIs to institutional investors and exchanges.

Founded by Clay Collins and Nick Gauthier in December, 2018, Nomics had raised $3 million from investors such as Arthur Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, Digital Currency Group, Polymath Network, Tokensoft, and more.

CoinSnacks first interviewed Clay in 2018, shortly after having launched Nomics in which he stated his ambitions to standardize crypto data.

The company often highlighted the fact that they were “first to list” new tokens and had more assets on their platform than competitors CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko combined.

Clay was also known for vocally calling out data aggregators – specifically CoinMarketCap – for unethical behavior such as running scam advertisements on site, allowing projects to cheat their rankings, and more.

Clay and Nomics aimed to fight against this with their “trustless transparancy” and their commitment to never take payment in exchange for “listings, ratings, or badges”

According to LinkedIn, much of the team, including co-founder Nick Gauthier, ended their stint at Nomics in February of 2023.

Despite launching some of the most innovative marketing campaigns in crypto over the last few years, Nomics shut down without warning on April 3, 2022.
